Compuware EcoTOOLS Release 3.3 Provides Comprehensive Management of Distributed Environments

Latest Version of EcoTOOLS Provides Enhancements for Sybase, DEC UNIX and Tuxedo TP

CAMPBELL, Calif., November 13, 1996 -- Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq: CPWR) today announced the release of EcoTOOLS 3.3, a dynamic distributed systems management tool that provides comprehensive management of the entire client/server environment. The new version provides significant enhancements to increase EcoTOOLS scalability and performance as well as managing the latest major software releases. EcoTOOLS provides an invaluable resource to IT professionals in its ability to gather and process real-time information on the current health of the system and to help determine future system and database capacity needs.

Compuware customers require both depth and breadth of functionality in order to manage and support their myriad business critical applications. The release of EcoTOOLS 3.3 underscores Compuware's ongoing commitment to provide full platform management and agent support. EcoTOOLS Release 3.3 includes the following enhancements:

Sybase Enhancements
Many EcoTOOLS customers are migrating their legacy Sybase 10 data to Sybase System 11, using EcoTOOLS to monitor and tune SQL Server performance. EcoTOOLS manages both Sybase 10 and Sybase 11 environments and provides monitoring and management support for Sybase's advanced replication functions as well as for its new logical memory manager.

Digital UNIX Support
DEC's 64-bit UNIX version has an increasing installation-base among EcoTOOLS customers due to its ability to accommodate multiple operating systems. EcoTOOLS 3.3 supports the DEC management console, license server and agent station and offers DEC UNIX customers a real-time performance monitoring option (EcoPMON).

Tuxedo Support
By incorporating BEA Tuxedo's processing information into its assessment of the system, EcoTOOLS provides an even more comprehensive way to manage data. The Tuxedo transaction processing monitor runs on a separate application server from a database server and enables enterprises to migrate seamlessly from 2-tier to 3-tier architectures, ensuring system scalability and in essence future-proofing companies with rapidly expanding IT needs. In addition, EcoTOOLS 3.3 monitors Tuxedo's overall health and throughput and identifies bottlenecks that impact end-user response time.

Additional New Product Features

EcoTOOLS already supports offerings from Informix, Oracle and Tivoli Systems. With its expanded functionality and integration with such technologies as Sybase, DEC and Tuxedo, EcoTOOLS offers the most comprehensive and effective tool for managing any IT environment.

"Compuware continues its commitment in EcoTOOLS 3.3 to provide intelligent solutions to manage customer requirements. To do so, we have to be one step ahead of the market, ensuring that we can provide support for all major IT developments that affect our customers. EcoTOOLS developers are constantly evaluating the changing IT arena in order to provide the best, most up-to-date management tool available," said Buff Jones, vice president, Systems Management Products Division.
